Lexmark GM swings for golf Guinness World Record™

Last Updated on August 4, 2010 by Christian Ralph

The general manager of Lexmark UK is to attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for hitting the most number of golf balls in 12 hours. Steve Purdy is undertaking the challenge to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Purdy, whose niece, Zoe (13), suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, will attempt to beat the current total of 7,721 at the Gog Magog Golf Club in Cambridgeshire on 20th August.

To gain the world record, Purdy will have to adhere to rules stipulating that the golf ball must be hit at least 100 yards, within a 30-degree angle of the tee area.

“I wanted to do something to support the great work The Cystic Fibrosis Trust undertakes, due to the family connection I have with the condition,” said Purdy. “As a keen golfer I thought this would be a great way to show my support for a charity that’s close to my heart,” he added.

“The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is already doing tremendous work in providing clinical care for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers throughout the UK, and is working very hard to find a cure for this life-threatening genetic disease,” Purdy explained. “The defective gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis has been identified and the research and development into finding a cure is at the point of the first ever multi-dose clinical trials being planned for next year.”
