What Is a Wireless Printer?

A wireless printer is exactly what you would expect it to be – it is a printer with wireless connectivity, allowing it to connect to devices and receive print jobs without the need for it to be physically connected to the device via cables.

The wireless printer is almost three decades old, having been invented in 1993 by Andrew Clams. This evolution of printers enabled printer users to connect the printer to other devices via internet connection/Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, meaning that several compatible devices could be connected to the printer at the same time with the printer receiving print jobs from these devices simultaneously.

Wireless printers are undoubtedly the standard when it comes to printers in the 21st century, so you will most likely only see wireless printers in most workplaces and domestic areas.

What Is an Inkjet Printer, and How Do They Differ From Laser Printers?

An inkjet printer refers to a printer that utilises ink cartridges to print materials – as opposed to a laser printer, which uses laser technology and toner cartridges to print.

Ink cartridges are composed of liquid ink that is either black (otherwise known as ‘key’), or dyed cyan, magenta, and yellow. On the other hand, toner is made up of granulated plastics in a dry powder, also available in cyan, magenta, yellow, and key/black. Together, these colours are referred to as CMYK.

CMYK colours are able to blend together to form an assortment of colours and pigments for colour printing.

In particular, an inkjet printer’s printing processes involve the following steps:

  • The ink cartridges are attached to small nozzles or jets on the print head inside the printer.
  • When a document has been sent to print, the nozzles spray thousands of ink droplets on the paper to replicate the image.
  • Ink is dispersed as the nozzles are heated or vibrated.

Buthow does a laser printer work? Inside a laser printer, a more complex printing process occurs:

  • Components such as the rotating drum and the toner cartridges inside the laser printer are given a positive charge.
  • The laser beams against a mirror that reflects onto the drum, replacing the positive charge with a negative charge.
  • When paper is inserted into the printer, it is given a positive charge.
  • As the paper passes the drum, the negatively charged particles of the toner attach to the sheet of paper.
  • The particles are then bonded via heat and pressure as it passes through the copier.

As you can see, the laser printing process is certainly more complicated than the inkjet printing process – however, laser technology is much faster than inkjet printing speeds, so you will find that laser printers are often quicker than their inkjet counterparts.

In fact, the majority of laser printers have a pages per minute (ppm) figure of 20-40, which shows that laser printers are definitely fast and ideal for high volume print jobs. In addition, their high capacity trays make them a perfect printer for commercial printing, especially when many materials need to be printed on a day-to-day basis.

Although inkjet printers are also capable of this, you will often find that they do not simply perform as quickly as laser printers. On the other hand, they still have their own advantages that make them suitable for domestic and business use.

Inkjet printers are still widely popular, with the inkjet market worth around $80.4 billion and estimated to grow to $118.2 billion in 2025. This shows the prevalence of inkjet printers, particularly in industries such as publishing, photography, and graphics, where high-quality print jobs are in demand. More often than not, you can expect wireless inkjet printers at the forefront of these industries when it comes to printing materials.

The Benefits of Using a Wireless Inkjet Printer

A wireless inkjet printer has a variety of benefits that you can reap should you choose to purchase one. Compared to a wired printer, a wireless inkjet printer is simply much more convenient in this day and age.

So what are some of the benefits that you can expect from using a wireless inkjet printer?

Increased Efficiency and Productivity

Wireless printers, especially all-in-one printers with Wi-Fi direct, lead to better efficiency and productivity in comparison to wired inkjet printers. For instance, as long as there is a stable network connection, you can even connect your mobile device to the wireless printer, allowing you to print from your phone.

The efficiency of wireless printers is unparalleled, with the ability to print from any device that is connected to the printer, saving you time from having to physically connect the two via cables.

In turn, this results in improved productivity as you can focus on your tasks more. Without having to worry about plugging your computer into the printer when you need to print, you can simply print wirelessly whenever you need to.

Amazing Print Quality

Inkjet printers already have an advantage over laser printers when it comes to print quality, especially since inkjet printers tend to be thebest printers for photographs. Now to make them even better? The ability to print wirelessly!

Wireless inkjet printers are perfect for printing publicity or marketing materials as other types of paper can be used in inkjet printers such as glossy paper. Crisp images are produced when using an inkjet printer, so you can expect clear details and quality.

In terms of colour, it cannot get any more vibrant than with inkjet printers. Rich and vivid colours are produced with inkjet printers, making them the ideal choice of printer if you are in the photography or publishing industry that requires high-quality photo printers.

It is worth keeping in mind that as inkjet printers use ink cartridges, there is also the possibility that the ink can smudge or bleed if the paper is tampered with right after printing. Therefore, it is important to remember to leave the ink and paper alone for a minute or two after it is finished printing to avoid those unwanted smudge marks.

To properly prevent this from happening, however, you must buy genuine ink cartridges that are original equipment manufacturer (OEM) consumables and made by the same company as your inkjet printer. As a result, the likelihood of smudging or bleeding is minimised as these ink cartridges are usually high quality and optimised for the printer you are using.

Lower Print Costs

As wireless inkjet printers have wireless connectivity, meaning that they can connect to multiple smart devices, this reduces the need for numerous printers for one workplace as many computers or other devices can simply connect to the one wireless printer for print jobs.

This can greatly lower print costs as less electricity and power are being used with one wireless printer being reachable by many devices compared to if there were multiple wired printers in use. The total amount on your energy bills will decrease thanks to wireless printers!

In addition, the cost of replacing ink cartridges is less with one printer - however, if you use the printer frequently, you may find that you will still need to replace the ink cartridges often. Nonetheless, this is still relatively inexpensive compared to if you had to replace ink cartridges in multiple printers continuously.

Portability and Tidiness

Wireless inkjet printers may only have one cable and that is the power cord. This means that there are no other cables or exposed wires that are potential safety hazards for you and other people - for example, someone could trip and fall over cables, or it could pose risks in the event of a fire.

Without the extra cables, wireless inkjet printers are safer and definitely more portable, especially with smaller-sized printer models. These printers can be tucked away in corners, freeing up space in your office area. Some printer models are even small enough for you to move around with, particularly if you are often on the go but still require important print jobs to be done.

For example, if you are a frequent business traveller, you should take advantage of wireless mobile inkjet printers that you can take with you wherever you go! These small-sized printers will become your best friend when it comes to printing on the go, and they are even suitable for stationary home and office use.

Moreover, the overall aesthetic of your office or home space is tidier without trailing cables all over the place. This can lead to improved productivity as your mind is less likely to be as negatively affected by your surroundings if your environment is clean and tidy.

Remember - a cluttered environment leads to a cluttered mind, so if you are looking for ways to clean up your office space, a wireless printer is one step in the right direction. No more messy office areas!

Printerland’s Range of Wireless Inkjet Printers

As a leading supplier of printers and printer consumables, it goes without saying that Printerland’s range of wireless inkjet printers includes reputable and well-known printer brands and products.

Our stock of distinguished printer manufacturers means that whatever wireless inkjet printer you choose, you can expect excellent quality and reliability.

Epson

One trustworthy printer manufacturer is none other than Epson. If you are looking to upgrade your printer to a wireless inkjet printer that promises exceptional performance and reliability, we recommend purchasing an Epson all-in-one wireless inkjet printer.

All-in-one printers, also known as multifunction printers (MFPs), are printers with the capability of printing, scanning, copying, and faxing, all in one machine. You can also expect an automatic document feeder to be incorporated into MFPs, making these printers perfect for office environments, whether that is at a home office or in a business workplace.

Epson MFPs have amazing print speeds and print quality, with around 15ppm to 32ppm in colour prints and 4,800 x 2,400 dots per inch (dpi). The higher dpi figure, the sharper and crisper the image resolution, so it is no wonder that Epson printers result in sharp and clean image details.

In particular, Epson EcoTank printer models perform outstandingly regarding high-volume print jobs, so if you are a printer user that will most likely be printing a high capacity of monochrome and colour materials, an Epson EcoTank may just be the wireless inkjet printer for you.

Epson EcoTanks use ink tanks that can be refilled with ink bottles instead of your regular ink cartridges, which makes it a cost-effective solution if you are frustrated with buying expensive ink cartridges. Ink bottles are cheaper and easier to recycle than ink cartridges so if being environmentally friendly is a priority to you, this is a good option.

You will benefit the most from an Epson EcoTank if you are a regular printer user, so they are most suited for day-to-day usage in business settings. Otherwise, the print heads may end up becoming clogged or dried up if you were to leave the printer off for long periods of time.

HP

One manufacturer that the majority of people will be familiar with is, of course, Hewlett-Packard - otherwise known as HP. This IT company is renowned for its manufacturing of hardware such as computers, laptops, printers, printer consumables, and others.

At Printerland, you can find our extensive range of HP wireless inkjet printers at competitive prices. We supply a collection of HP MFPs (multifunction printers), as well as A4 print and A3 print models, so whatever your printing needs, HP is a brand that can surely satisfy them.

Similar to the Epson EcoTank, the HP Smart Tank also utilises an ink tank that is refillable. With inexpensive ink bottles, the HP Smart Tank is another printer series that is useful if you are wanting to save money in the long term. Although the initial cost of the printer is an investment, your return on investment will soon be proven as you do not have to buy expensive ink cartridges frequently, instead buying ink bottles to refill the ink tank that can last quite a long time.

In addition to this, the majority of wireless HP inkjet printers at Printerland are HP+ eligible, specifically with their OfficeJet and DeskJet models. HP+ is a printing solution offered by HP that enables a host of additional features for your HP printer that can help you save money in the long run.

These features include:

  • 6 months of HP Instant Ink - HP ink cartridge subscription service that delivers genuine ink cartridges straight to your door, plus cartridge recycling services
  • Up to 1 year additional HP warranty
  • Enhanced smart security that protects your HP printer from malware
  • Cloud-based connectivity that automatically detects and fixes any issues
  • 1 year of advanced HP Smart app solutions
  • Private Pickup - only releasing printed documents when you are by the printer
  • Forest First - every page printed contributes to the protection of restoration of forests

Please note that you will need a HP account and an internet connection for HP+ to work. If these sound like something you would be interested in, then what are you waiting for?

Canon

Canon is a brand that is well-known with photography lovers, so it is not surprising that Canon wireless inkjet printers are ideal for photo printing. Their colour page yield is often better than their competition, delivering incredible print results, so if you are someone who enjoys printing pictures, Canon is the wireless inkjet printer brand to turn to.

Although their printing quality generates stunning and vivid images in colour, this is at the expense of their printing speeds. Even the Canon PIXMA models with 4,800 x 1,200 dpi have a printing speed of 6ppm in colour. However, these types of printers are usually designed for photo printing anyway, so you cannot expect to use these for typical business printing jobs.

Canon printers are excellent as photo printers, so if you are in the photography, publicity, marketing, or other industries that need high print quality in terms of precision and colours, then look no further than Canon wireless inkjet printers.

Canon’s recycling programme is an added benefit of purchasing a Canon printer, giving you free access to their ink cartridge recycling scheme where you can send off OEM ink cartridges to be recycled in their facility.

Brother

Other brands that we offer include Brother, a printer manufacturer with a stock of sleek wireless A4 and A3 MFPs. Brother wireless inkjet printers are reliable and trustworthy regarding performance and capability, and at Printerland, you can browse our lineup of Brother printers at competitive prices.

Despite not having as much popularity as the likes of HP or Epson, Brother printers are a cost-effective solution to your printing needs, without compromising print quality. The cost of their ink cartridges are indeed cheaper than their competitors, and with relatively cheaper price points at entry, Brother wireless inkjet printers and their ink cartridges are good value for your money.

In addition to this, their ink cartridges are sold individually by colour, meaning that you are able to reduce waste or unused ink that may occur with ink cartridges that hold all 4 colours in separate reservoirs.

This makes Brother printers an excellent choice for both domestic and commercial use, so you simply cannot go wrong with purchasing a Brother wireless inkjet printer. The best bang for your buck may reside in the underdog of printer manufacturers, Brother.
