BLI Buyers Lab 2015 Pick
The Pantum P2500 Series has earned the BLI Winter 2015 Pick for Outstanding Personal Monochrome Printer, base on the performance of the ‘’W’’ configuration (which has a wireless interface, while the sibling P2500 doesn’t).
‘’The P2500 boasts a cost of ownership that’s among the lowest for this class,’’ said BLI Senior Writer Carl Schell. ‘’At peak volumes over three year, users will spend about 24 percent less than average, making either device an economical choice for users.’’
Compact and lightweight, the P2500W sailed through durability testing with no issues and offers simple routine maintenance procedures. At the desktop, the host-based driver lets users save settings for frequently used jobs. Power consumption can be a hidden cost of printing, but with a selection in the print driver, users can configure a time for the unit to enter sleep mode (immediately or following 5,15,20 or 60 minutes of inactivity), which can help save energy and lower costs.
The 23-ppm mono laser printers support printing from smartphones and tablets via Wireless Direct and the Pantum Mobile Printing app. Image quality samples exhibited dark solids and the full range of grayscale, while first-print times for all three test files from ready mode, as well as running speed when printing simplex sets, were competitive. The unit has a high non-upgradeable memory capacity, and compared with devices in the group, the feedback utility is robust, as it provides troubleshooting information to simplify error recovery.
’’The P2500 Series delivers quality, affordability and reliability, which is everything users want in a destop printer,’’ Schell said. ‘’Users in need of a printer for home use definitely can’t go wrong with either of these two devices.’’
