Hi, I’m interested in upgrading to a thermal printer for labeling. I'm looking at the intermec PC43d/t. Can you answer this query, if I purchased a thermal transfer printer, can this also be used with direct thermal labels?
Obviously removing the transfer roll etc. And just using the thermal labels instead.
Having the option to change between label types would be useful, or would I need two separate printers.
The Intermec PC43d is a direct thermal label printer whereas the Intermec PC43t is a thermal transfer label printer. Direct thermal labels are chemically treated to react to heat within a direct thermal printer, so unfortunately this media type can not be used in a thermal transfer printer, as this method uses a heated ribbon to print onto the labels and using a direct thermal media type could cause printing issues or damage the printer internally.
