**Page yields are declared by the manufacturer in accordance with ISO/IEC standards or occasionally estimated based on 5% per page coverage. Yields will vary greatly depending on image, area coverage, print mode and environmental conditions.
Choosing ink and supplies for your HP Deskjet F2400 printer can sometimes be a bit of a minefield. Normally, you'll find yourself making a choice between third-party ink supplies and genuine ink cartridges from your printer's original manufacturer. Although the third-party options can look compelling thanks to a lower initial purchase price, in reality, there are a wide range of factors that you should consider before opting for one type of ink over another.
As well as the price of the cartridge you should also try to find out the quality of prints that the ink will produce, the environmental record of the manufacturer and the yield rate of the cartridge. It's also important to check that there's no risk of the ink causing damage to your F2400 printer, as can be the case with certain third-party products. This is especially important as this type of damage is rarely covered by service plans or warranty agreements.
According to HP's own figures, the HP Deskjet F2400 can print around 20 pages per minute in black and white and 16 pages per minute in colour. These statistics refer to the printer's draft mode and, in many cases, you'll find that third-party supplies perform very poorly in these conditions. This may mean that you have to set the printer to a higher quality setting which means that every document that you print will take longer and use more ink. When you consider this information alongside the fact that the manufacturer's original ink generally had higher yield rates than third-party alternatives, you may well discover that the genuine inks offer a lower cost per page printed than third-party alternatives despite possibly having a higher initial purchase price.
