If you are installing a printer on a computer and don\u2019t have the installation disc to hand, there\u2019s no need to worry.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a step-by-step guide to installing a printer without the disc.<\/p>\n

Before you begin<\/h2>\n

The process for installing a printer without a disc will vary slightly depending on whether your computer operates on Windows or macOS. However, the first step will be to connect your printer via a USB. The majority of modern printers contain USB connectivity which helps to install the relevant drivers. Ensure your computer or device is connected to the internet* to install drivers from the operating system. Connect the printer via USB and turn the printer on.<\/p>\n

If the printer does not have USB connectivity, you should download a printer specific driver from the manufacturer\u2019s website. This will allow you to utilise the full functionality of your printer. You can do this as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. Note the make and model of the printer.<\/li>\n
  2. Visit the Support section of the manufacturer\u2019s website and search for the relevant model.<\/li>\n
  3. Download the relevant drivers for your printer and computer\u2019s operating system. Windows users must download Windows drivers and Mac users must download Mac drivers.<\/li>\n
  4. Check for any additional software for your printer for additional functionality, including operations such as scanning.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    macOS<\/h2>\n

    Some printers will automatically search for the necessary drivers as soon as the USB connection is made, and you can simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process. If the drivers don\u2019t automatically start installing, you can complete a manual search and start the installation.<\/p>\n

    In the Apple menu, click \u2018System Preferences\u2019. Select \u2018Print & Fax\u2019 and click the \u2018+\u2019 button on-screen at the bottom of the printer list. Select your chose printer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.<\/p>\n

    Windows<\/h2>\n

    Again, the installation process may already begin. But, if it doesn\u2019t, follow these steps.<\/p>\n

    Open \u2018Control Panel\u2019 and click \u2018Devices and Printers\u2019. Click \u2018Add a Printer\u2019 and the system will begin seeking the printer. When the printer you are looking to install is displayed, select it from the list and follow the on-screen instructions.<\/p>\n
