The Most Common Printer Installation Issues

Last Updated on May 13, 2020 by Christian Ralph

When it comes to installing a printer and setting up your new machine, the many wires, cables and connectivity options can be confusing for even the biggest technology fan.

Despite being relatively easy to set-up, a number of mistakes are commonly made when installing the unit, which can lead to issues with your printer not functioning correctly or showing error display messages.

Along with causing frustration for everyone working within your business when something doesn’t print properly, it can result in a loss of time and effort if you aren’t able to set up your printer.

However, the team here at Printerland are experts with printer installation, so we’ve put together a quick guide for fixing the most common issues:

Cabling Problems

Cable problems often occur when initially setting up a printer – especially if you’ve never set-up a machine like this before!

There are a number of cables that come with a single printer and by incorrectly inserting the cables to/from your machine, you may experience warning messages or a lack of responsiveness.

If you set-up your printer and suspect that this is where you’ve gone wrong, turn off the electrics and re-connect the machines according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This should ensure that all of the cables are inserted to the suitable ports.

Incorrect Default Printer Settings

Often, we see people setting up a printer perfectly and struggling with recognising why their paperwork isn’t printing. If your business has been experiencing this, check the default printer settings on the device you’re sending files from.

The default printer setting is often set-up by the operating system on your device and when your old printer has been disposed in favour for your new machine, this setting means that your files are being sent to the old unit that’s no longer in use.

This has a relatively easy fix. Simply head to the menu options on your computer and choose the name of your new printer to change your settings. This means that your new printer will be automatically registered to print from your computer.

Printing Paperwork Separately

By setting up your business printer incorrectly, you may encounter an issue that causes paperwork you’ve sent to the machine to print separate parts of your document at a different time. Not only can this be a major inconvenience for busy companies, but it also wastes paper!

Issues with the printer driver usually cause problems like this, with the main issue often being that the driver isn’t compatible with the operating system of the device you’re sending files from.

Leading to a build-up of items in the printing queue, it’s important to check your driver compatibility before beginning the printer installation.

As you can see, there are a variety of ways in which a printer could be incorrectly installed. If you have tried all of these options and cannot seem to find the set-up fault, you may want to read our ultimate guide to troubleshooting your printer.
