Xerox WorkCentre 3615 review: a lightning fast mono laser printer
The Xerox WorkCentre 3615 was released at the same time as its younger brother the Phaser 3610 and is intended to be an upscale version that produces many of the same results with a few vital additional features. See all mono printer reviews.
Like the Phaser 3610, the WorkCentre 3615 is a mono laser printer for small to medium size businesses but it also includes full multifunction capabilities which add fax, scan and copy to the basic print mode. See also Best Printer 2013.
The unit feels rugged and strong, weighing in at 21.5 kg and occupying a roughly square space of 495 x 492 mm. Styled in the trademark Xerox two-tone blue and cream, there are plenty of options here for expanding your input volume to suit company demands. There is one flimsy part of the machine, however, which is the front panel that has to be tugged quite smartly to reveal the toner cartridge.
A 60-sheet Auto Document Feeder sits on the top, a drop-down multipurpose tray that holds a further 150 sheets is built into the front and the main input try in the base contains 550 sheets. As with the Phaser 3610, this can be expanded with a further three trays to make 2,350 sheets in total.
Auto duplex operation comes as standard with both normal printing and via the ADF. Print functions are handled by the exceptionally bright and clear to follow colour touch screen and connectivity can be established via USB 2.0, Ethernet or (optional) Wi-Fi.
The WorkCentre 3615 has an almost identical speed ratio to the Phaser 3610, averaging 45 ppm for single sheets and 24 ppm for duplex, which are some of the fastest rates in this class. Graphics and images manage to avoid the exaggeratedly dark tones that bedevil many MFPs of this type and scanned images - which are saved as JPEGs, TIFFs and PDFs to PC folders, network files or USB memory sticks - retain authentic colours and vibrancy.
The ink quality on black text documents is deep and distinct and depending on your required print volumes, toner cartridges come in three versions: Standard (5900 pages at 2.47p per page), High (14,100 pages at 1.77p per page) and Extra High (25,300 pages at 1.32p per page).
