Printerland Helps Lone-Sailor

This week Printerland provided satellite phone services for single-handed Sailor Adam Slade as he attempted to cross Biscay from Belle-Isle, Northern France to Baiona in Northern Spain.

Why Alone?

Adam spent the first several years of his life in Great Ormond Street Hospital undergoing countless operations and… well this is what the Doctors said.

" He was born prematurely and soon after birth was noted to have problems with control of his lower limbs. In essence a partial paralysis of his legs was apparent, but the exact cause of this problem was unclear. It was felt that there was possibly damage to the spinal cord at or around the time of birth. In his childhood he underwent multiple operations on his feet and on his hip in order to control their position and development. He lacked control of his foot and ankle regions. He used 'irons' or 'calipers' to assist him to walk."

Three decades later Adam is facing grueling challenges to ‘pay-back’ the hospital and his journey is a pilgrimage to the dedication of the staff that nursed him through those early years of his life.

As any sailor knows Biscay can be cruel and to do this leg alone is very difficult. The ability to contact emergency services, offshore, could be vital and all of us at Printerland hope that Adam will never need to use this facility.

Rugby Youngsters Battle For Victory

More than a thousand young rugby players descended upon Wilmslow rugby club last weekend for the rugby club’s annual festival.

Teams from as far afield as Scotland and Ireland were among the 90-plus sides aged seven to 12 fighting for silverware.

A spokesman for Wilmslow RUFC said “sponsorship forms a key part of the club’s fund raising activities, and companies like ROK and Lexus have contributed in recent years. However, this year we were pleased to announce the involvement of Printerland.co.uk, an official sponsor of Sale Sharks. As such, their commitment goes beyond simple financial contributions giving the event additional Kudos’.

In attendance was Andrew Sheridan of Sale and British Lions, Steve Hanley the Premierships record try scorer, Philippe Saint-André the Ex-Sale Coach and soon to be Toulon Head-Coach and Wilmslow legend ‘Chopper’ McKevitt.

BBC Covers Printerland Defiance of Credit Crunch

Boom, not gloom, online
From the highest business premises in Manchester, Lawrence Jones has an unrivalled view of a hidden world: the world of online sales.

The web host company UK Fast, which is based on the 28th floor of City Tower in Piccadilly Gardens, looks after 250,000 web sites, all busy trying to compete in the world of e-commerce. Yet, far from the gloomy sales figures down below on the High Street, managing director Lawrence Jones believes that online sales are flying high. "I’d say we’re in the middle of a boom," he said confidently. "And I’d say we’ve been in a boom for some time but because of the boom of the early years that went horribly wrong, people have been very nervous of saying that."

Elaine Ferneley, Professor of Technological Innovation at the Salford Business School said there were a number of reasons why online shopping was proving so popular. "People are more conscious of what they’re spending and, with sites like Kelkoo and Pricerunner, the web allows them to make useful cost comparisons when they’re looking for a bargain," she said.

James Kight of Printerland.co.uk
Professor Ferneley also said that shopping online was less painful than going to the shops with your hard-earned cash. "If you’re sat in front of your laptop, there’s a perception by a lot of people that they're not really buying anything!"

Niche
She added that big companies like IKEA were already questioning whether they needed more shops and concentrating on their online sales. Even small niche businesses were seeing growth online, extending their sales globally, she said.

Printerland.co.uk based in Altrincham is one of them. The computer printer business has seen its turnover soar from £2 million to £18 million in just three years - largely from online sales. In spite of the global gloom, managing Director James Kight said they'd just witnessed their best two weeks' sales ever and were even recruiting staff to cope with demand. "We've not dropped our prices or anything," he said. "We've just increased our marketing. It's about getting the fundamentals right, in terms of good customer service, and having an online side to the business that delivers."

The Printerland Stand Is The Most Fervent In The Guinness Premiership

The Printerland Stand at Edgeley Park
The Printerland.co.uk stand at Edgeley Park, Stockport - A force to be reckoned with

By salesharks.co.uk

In the SUNDAY TIMES preview for the new Guinness Premiership season, top writer Stephen Jones believes that Edgeley Park has a HIGH FORTRESS FACTOR and that the Printerland Stand is the most fervent in the division.

Director of Rugby Philippe Saint Andre agrees and said, " I always refer to the Edgeley Park crowd as my 16th man and they do a tremendous job, week in week out, lifting and encouraging the players throughout the game."

Stephen Jones also tips Sale Sharks for a minimum top four finish and Sky TV's Stuart Barnes who also writes for RUGBY WORLD has predicted a top place finish for the Sharks this season.

A Lucky Stand?

Stockport County fans in the Printerland.co.uk Stand show their support before the big Play-Off Semi-Final against Wycombe

By Christian Ralph

Almost 3 years since the announcement of Printerland.co.uk's 6 figure sponsorship deal with the Sale Sharks Rugby Team, the Printerland Stand at Edgeley Park has witnessed a wealth of sporting successes before its 5000+ blue seats.

In the stand's infancy, the 2005/06 season saw the Sharks lift the Guinness Premiership Trophy for the first time in the clubs 147 year history.

This Year has seen 2 further successes in front of the stand, although this time it has been on the football pitch rater than between the posts of Rugby Union. April saw the MK Dons secure promotion to League One after beating Stockport County 3-2, but not all was lost for County as the following month saw Stockport gain promotion themselves by first grasping a trip to Wembley Stadium after a nail-biting win over Wycombe Wanderers at Edgeley Park and then clinching a thrilling 3-2 play-off victory over local rivals Rochdale.

Coincidence? We think not!

Going…going...gone!

By Matthew Lawson

If you were the Joint Managing Director of the TD Travel Group Limited, one of the largest independent business travel specialists in the UK, who also numbered amongst their valued clients Brother UK, what would you do if you won a Xerox printer? Would you keep it and hide it?

This was the dilemma on Friday night at a charity auction held at Mere Golf Club when Mr Simon King won the printer after bidding the most for 10 Sale Sharks versus London Irish rugby tickets.

The solution came sooner than imagined when Simon King attempted to squeeze the large A4 printer into a friends Land Rover Discovery alongside, or should I say on top of, the seven bemused passengers…….

Speaking later Simon said “ I knew it wouldn’t fit from the minute I saw it and had already donated it to one of the waiting staff at the venue who nearly collapsed when I handed it to her”.

Thanks go to Mr King and ‘table 4’ for helping printerland.co.uk to raise £575 towards a huge total of £5025 for the chosen charity of Alderley Edge Girls School.

Peter Ward, Xerox European General Manager of Distribution and Volume Products, presented lucky winner Jonathan Bowers of UK Fast with a Xerox printer.

Peter added:

'Printerland's relationship with Xerox is getting consistently stronger. (...) Printerland has achieved over 180% growth in the last financial year. What makes Printerland's growth remarkable is that it was achieved from an already significant foundation.'

Special Tag Rugby with Printerland's Rugby Youth Programme

Before Christmas, Printerland helped treat Stockport Special Tag Rugby Squad to a dream outing at Edgeley Park. At half time during the 'Sale Sharks Vs Leicester Tigers' game the youngsters entertained a capacity crowd of 10,872 with a special game of 'Tag Rugby'. The following letter highlights just how invaluable the day was to all those involved.

Dear Martin,
What a great start to Christmas we had with our 'treat' outing to Edgeley Park on Dec 23rd. I don't know who was more excited, the parents or the youngsters! We hired a coach to take us to the ground and one of the squad had spent hours on the computer making signs to put in the windows so everyone knew who we were.

The squad was not overwhelmed by the occasion although it was the first time many of the youngsters had been to a big sporting event. One of the Mum's, who was widowed 7 years ago and now brings up 2 teenage lads, both with severe autism on her own, emailed me after the event. She said how emotional the match was for her, as she had often watched rugby with her husband years ago, but because of the difficulties with which she now had to cope, she had not been for years and it was great to be involved again in the comraderie of rugby supporters. She said how proud her husband would have been to see their sons on the pitch.

One of the Leicester players actually threw his training top to Becky , a wheelchair user, who now refuses to be parted from her trophy!

Cheers Kay

A big thank you must go to Graham Vickers at Printerland who gave us this opportunity to show that rugby is indeed a sport for all, including those with severe learning or mobility problems. After providing a crucial try scoring pass, and going on to score a 30 yard match winning try in the final 10 seconds; and all against the club at which he started his Union Career during an illustrious 15 years in Rugby, it must have been a truly tough call for James Kight, Joint Managing Director of Printerland.co.uk to announce that Jason Robinson was the 'man of the match' after Sale Sharks' dramatic 25-23 victory over Bath Rugby.

The award was handed to the Sharks' captain shortly after his final game during an emotional farewell presentation at Edgeley Park.
